14th May - Dengie Bus Users’ excitement at improved bus service

Spontaneous clapping and cheering broke out at the Annual General Meeting of the Dengie Bus Users Group (DHBUG) on 14 May when Giles Fearnley, Managing Director of First Group’s UK Bus Division announced an enhanced timetable for the 31X Burnham-on-Crouch to Chelmsford bus service.  He said:

“The DHBUG have been lobbying for some time for improvements to the frequency of the section beyond Maldon through to Burnham on Crouch to be increased from hourly to half-hourly, and the past year has seen strong year on year bus revenue growth.  A revised, improved timetable has been devised to meet these aspirations.”

The benefits of the new timetable planned from the end of August 2014 are:

31X increased to run Chelmsford to Burnham-on-Crouch every 30 mins (Mon-Sat)
An earlier journey from Maldon to Chelmsford (Mon to Fri) to arrive before 06.30
A possible extension of the 22.15 Chelmsford to Maldon journey to Burnham
Some of the new journeys to be through Upper Althorne where the 31X was withdrawn in 2009.

DHBUG are delighted with this news and are to meet with First to discuss the details and consider how the new service should be publicised.  One of the biggest barriers to better bus use is lack of information on routes, timetables and fares;  DHBUG will be working to break down this barrier.
