Buses get the green light

New technology that allows buses to ‘talk’ to traffic lights is being extended in Newcastle following funding from the DfT.

The smart technology fitted on buses gives them priority at traffic lights which remain green for longer when they recognise an approaching bus. The teams behind the project at Newcastle City Council and Newcastle University hope that by developing intelligent transport infrastructure they will be able to manage traffic flow, speed up journeys, reduce congestion, clean up the environment and improve accessibility.
