BSOG to undergo reforms

Bus Users responds to the announcement of reforms to the Bus Service Operators' Grant.

The announcement of reforms to the Bus Service Operators’ Grant (BSOG) by Transport Minister Norman Baker has been welcomed by Bus Users.

The reforms follow confirmation in the Spending Review that Government support for bus services will be maintained until at least 2015/16, news that has been warmly welcomed by Gillian Merron, Chair of Bus Users UK:

"We are extremely pleased that BSOG has survived the Spending Review and that funding for most commercial bus services will go direct to the bus companies.

It’s also vital that the funding which is to go to local authorities for tendered services has been ringfenced, ensuring continued investment in improving bus services. We are very glad to see the Government responding so positively to our calls on behalf of the millions of people who rely on bus travel each year."
