Know any good drivers?

We’d like to hear about them — and they might get an award!

As Bus Users UK members will know only too well, the attitude of bus drivers can make all the difference to the quality of a bus journey. That is why we are asking Bus Users UK members to nominate a driver, perhaps on your local route, who you feel might merits the title Top National Driver.

The title will be awarded at the prestigious UK Bus Awards presentation in London in November, and the organisers have asked Bus Users UK members to nominate drivers who are genuinely passenger-friendly and who deserve to be considered for the title.

It’s not enough that they drive safely, smoothly and courteously — though this is obviously important; we want to hear about the drivers who are always friendly, who greet passengers and thank them for travelling, who are patient with passengers who may be unsure of their journey or the fare, who allow passengers who may be unsteady on their feet to sit before starting off, who deal with enquiries in a friendly and positive way, and who keep passengers advised if there are any problems or delays.

We know that there are drivers out there who fit this description and we are inviting Bus Users UK members to nominate a driver that they feel would be worthy of the Top National Driver title.

Bus Users UK will produce a short-list based on your nominations and will assess the driver through mystery traveller journeys to decide a winner. The Bus Users UK member who has nominated the winning driver will be invited to attend the awards lunch in London.

We appreciate that it is often not possible to identify drivers easily, so if you don’t know his or her name, we would need something that would help us to identify them – a ticket, exact details of a journey with that driver (bus company name, route, journey travelled, date, time, bus number, even a brief description).
